Apple Is Hiring Someone to Think About Stablecoins for Apple Pay
Apple is recruiting an Apple Pay strategy lead with stablecoin and blockchain experience, a job posting that would put stablecoins in front of a payments network with over two billion users. A hire is not a product, but it is a direction.

Apple is hiring an Apple Pay strategy lead with stablecoin and blockchain experience — a role that, if it leads anywhere, would bring stablecoins into one of the world's largest payment ecosystems. Apple counts over two billion users.
A job posting is a weak signal, read honestly
This is a recruitment listing, not a launch, and large companies staff options they never exercise. What it does establish is that stablecoin strategy has become a thing Apple wants owned by a named person inside the payments organisation rather than watched from the research function.
The reason that is worth noting is distribution. Stablecoins have not lacked technology for years; they have lacked a consumer surface. A wallet already on two billion devices is the largest consumer surface in payments.
The Ethiopian angle is remittances
For readers here, the interesting question is not whether Ethiopians will pay for coffee in stablecoins. It is what happens to the remittance corridor if dollar-denominated stablecoin transfer becomes a default option inside a mainstream wallet.
Ethiopia's formal remittance channel competes on a spread between an advertised rate and a delivered one, and that spread is the business model for banks and money transfer operators alike. A transfer rail where the sending fee is visible and the settlement is instant does not compete on service; it competes on making the spread legible.
Two things would still stand in the way, and they are the binding ones: a recipient needs a route from a stablecoin balance into spendable Birr, and the National Bank sets the rules for that route. Neither is affected by anything Apple does.
Open
Apple has announced no product, no partner and no timeline, and has not said whether the role covers accepting stablecoins, issuing one, or settlement behind the scenes. The posting is the entire public record.
