The Education Ministry Opens a Transfer Registration for Students from Tigray's Universities

The Ministry of Education has opened an online registration for students who were studying at universities in the Tigray region, directing them to apply for temporary placement at other public universities.

What students are asked to do

The ministry's notice, carried by Tikvah Ethiopia, tells affected students to go to `https://student.ethernet.edu.et/university-transfer/` and enter the university they previously attended, their academic year, their programme of study, their identification number and other required details.

The placement is described as temporary. The notice does not say how long "temporary" runs, nor what happens to students at the end of that period.

What is not in the notice

There is no figure for how many students are covered, no list of the receiving universities, and no closing date for registration. The notice also does not address the questions that follow from a mid-programme move — whether credits already earned transfer intact, whether students carry their existing cost-sharing arrangements, or who covers relocation.

For a country whose graduate pipeline feeds directly into an already tight formal labour market, the size of the cohort being moved is the number that matters, and it has not been published.
