Manchester City Go Three Points Clear After an Eight-Goal Win Over Sunderland

Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3 at the Etihad to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League, in a match that produced eight goals and a hat-trick for the losing side.

Brobbey took the three for Sunderland and still finished on the wrong end of the result. Rayan Cherki scored for City in a performance Joe Hart called the work of "a genius" on Match of the Day.

Behind them

Manchester United 1-1 Fulham. United went behind to a Lisandro Martinez own goal at Craven Cottage and were rescued by a deflected Matheus Cunha strike in the 89th minute — a point that denied Fulham their first league win of the season and left Gary Neville calling United "pathetic" while head coach Michael Carrick said his side "kept their belief".

Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool. Andoni Iraola won on his return to his former club, Alexander Isak scoring in the second half at the Vitality.

Leeds 0-0 Crystal Palace. A hard-earned draw at Elland Road extended Leeds' unbeaten start to the campaign.

Glasgow and Madrid

Rangers beat Celtic again, a first-half Ryan Naderi goal settling the first Old Firm league meeting of the season and following their earlier League Cup win over the same opponents. Celtic have now lost three consecutive big games, and Martin O'Neill said he will use the international break to reflect on his position — "it might be time to wrap it up".

In the 179th Madrid derby, Atletico Madrid beat a Real Madrid side reduced to ten men, moving above their rivals into second in La Liga. Real's Jose Mourinho responded by printing out screenshots of two incidents he believes should have brought Atletico dismissals.
